Day 35

Cross Keys United Methodist Church

www.crosskeyschurch.org

Scripture:

1 Corinthians10:13

Jesus Christ Carrying the Cross

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Reflection:

When I first was asked to do a devotional, I was not sure which scripture to pick. Then I went on my Facebook Memories and two years ago this week, 1 Corinthians 10:13 came up in my memories. I distinctly remember being in church and having a lot of struggles with my faith. Earlier in the month my body went into labor and I was only 12 weeks pregnant.

I kept thinking why was this happening to me, especially after losing another baby only a few months prior. During the time after I lost my baby, I was able to find out that we lost a little girl and that she had a form of Down's Syndrome and she would not have made it through birth. I think back after hearing this scripture and wondering. Was God making sure that I would not feel even more pain by taking her away so early on in my pregnancy, instead of at birth?

There have been countless times since my miscarriages that I have been told, “God will only give you what you can handle”. Or “God works in mysterious ways”. While I was going through these times in my life, I really did not want to hear that. But now looking back in the last two years, those times still continue to hurt a little. Especially when my older son, Joey talks about his little sister that is in Heaven and how he wishes he could see her and play with her.

Then I think about my sweet baby, Jimmy, we would not have his love and his amazing self in our lives if we did not go through those times of trouble.

During this time of Lent, when I am reflecting on things more than ever, I come back to that scripture and remember how important it is to see that God will not allow me to be hurting or struggling more in life than I can bear.

God is the one who can decide and understand that more than anyone else.

Prayer:

Dear God, Thank you for allowing us to have this time of reflection as we prepare for this upcoming Easter season. Thank you for being a guiding light, even in our darkest moments. We thank you for your everlasting love and guidance.

In Jesus's name, we pray, Amen.

Please take a moment to consider what God is speaking to you through the scripture passage and the devotional reflection.

Let us now take a moment for prayer, lifting up our sisters and brothers whose names we've shared during our Sunday worship services and on the bulletin prayer list. May the healing Spirit of God be with each of them and with all of us. Amen.

You can also listen to the music provided below as a backdrop

for your time of prayer.
