Day 12

Cross Keys United Methodist Church

Scripture:

Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

Navigate Our Life Journey with the Holy Spirit

I had driven my granddaughter to her doctor’s appointment using the GPS. Now I needed to coordinate where to drop her off - her home, my home or her next appointment.

Observant and analytical, she watches and often asks questions. She had noticed me using the GPS to get to the doctor.

I called her mom and left a message asking where to go next. Hanging up, I began to drive. I hadn't gone 50 feet when she asked “Abba, why are we driving if we don't know where we're going?” She pointed at the car’s GPS map and said “we don’t know where to go next.”

I told her that we were on the “right road” to start us out, but that if we waited too long to hear back from her mom, we might miss her appointment.

I told her that we were on the “right road” to start us out, but that if we waited too long to hear back from her mom, we might miss her appointment. Shortly, we did hear from her mom and knew exactly where to go.

My granddaughter’s reaction reminded me that we don't always know where to go next - but we do know what road is “right” to start down. And we know what our final destination is.

Waiting upon the Lord, we don’t have to be passive, miss a chance to start our journey, or end up being late to an opportunity. Jesus showed us how to walk. If we start out on the right path, we can make adjustments as the Holy Spirit leads us better than any GPS.

Reflection Written by Bill Breuer

Prayer:

Blessed Jesus, thank you for the example of your life. Remind us that your first followers called their fellowship The Way, for it is the way we should walk daily, stepping out in faith. Help us to wait upon you Lord, but to do so actively, so as not to tarry and miss what we can do to help heal this broken world in service to you.

In Jesus's name, we pray, Amen.

Please take a moment to consider what God is speaking to you through the scripture passage and the devotional reflection.

Then, take some time for prayer—pray for your own soul, and lift up our sisters and brothers who are struggling with spiritual, emotional, and physical challenges.

You can also listen to the music provided below as a backdrop
