Day 20

Cross Keys United Methodist Church

www.crosskeyschurch.org

Scripture:

John 14:27 (NIV)

Sunday readings, Bible.male holding Bible with nature view

Peace I leave you: my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

A Samll Act of Kindness

Jesus had just finished explaining to his disciples that he would be leaving them in this world. He was going to prepare a room in his father’s house. As with children he would not leave them alone or unprotected. They should not worry.

They heard but did not understand how or why this would happen. How this would change everything forever in their lives.

I have found the same to be true in this world. We think we understand death and prepare a worldly way to deal with it, just as the disciples probably did. Those plans are very inadequate and give no lasting peace. Jesus understood this and the Holy Spirit was sent to comfort and protect. This is a reminder of God’s love for them and all of us, to this day. It is the true unending peace only Jesus can give.

Worldly peace is superficial and controlled by emotion. The peace of Jesus is genuine and everlasting. Give your trust and emotions to him.

Reflection Written by Scott Sweigert

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, in today’s world, emotional Peace has become an elusive concept. Psychological stumbling blocks are everywhere. The media and educational system fuel these fires, falsely declaring themselves the ultimate truths and sources of happiness, telling us how we should feel and react. Please strengthen the Holy Spirit in each of us with his pure love. Always mindful that YOU are the ultimate truth. Let our personal trust in you insure the true and lasting personal peace only you can give.

In Jesus's name, we pray, Amen.

Please take a moment to consider what God is speaking to you through the scripture passage and the devotional reflection.

Then, take some time for prayer—pray for your own soul, and lift up

the leaders in our community, town, state, nation, and the world. We ask for God’s wisdom to guide them in their decision-making. Help them to lead with integrity, compassion, and justice, always seeking the common good. Also the upcoming election in Nov!

May God’s peace be with them!
