Scripture:

John 19:30 (NIV)

Hand Drawn Flying Dove

Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Quality of life

Recently, I've had the joy of watching my children interact through FaceTime calls. After spending most of their lives apart – they both had a ‘only child’ life, but they're now together. Their love for each other is heartwarming. Eugenie keeps telling Luke, 'I love you, my boy,' and Luke responds the sentiment to his big sister. If Eugenie lays on the floor, he lays down beside her. If she brushes her teeth, he joins her in the bathroom to brush his teeth too.

Whatever Eugenie does, he mimics, showing their strong bond.

Yet, beneath their loving gestures lies a daily struggle. Despite their deep bond, they often struggle to express their love in gentle ways. Luke hugs Eugenie one moment but bites her arms the next if she touches his toys. Eugenie enjoys playing with Luke but becomes upset when he throws her toys.

This often leads to tears and drama, but surprisingly, they quickly make up, although it may only last for a short time.

Watching their interactions made me reflect on how we express love to one another. Due to our immaturity, we sometimes struggle to accept, embrace, and forgive each other fully. At times, our words unintentionally hurt others. It seems that consistently loving others in a mature manner requires a high level of love.

David Brooks, in his book "How to See a Person," emphasizes that the quality of our relationships significantly impacts the quality of our lives. In this sense, how do you perceive the quality of your life?

My dear sisters and brothers, we all face challenges in our relationships from time to time, and these difficulties can impact the quality of our lives.

However, the scripture reminds us that Jesus declared, 'It is finished,' as He gave up His spirit on the Cross (John 19:30). Despite our struggles, Jesus continues to offer us a relationship of genuine love, mercy, acceptance, and forgiveness. I encourage you to come to the Cross, experience His profound love during this time of meditation, and witness how His love can transform your daily journey. May His love empower you to share compassion and kindness, enhancing the quality of your lives through Him.

Reflection Written by Rev. Sean Lee

Prayer:

Lord, we thank you for the love and sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. Help us find hope in you, even amidst our struggles. Guide us to express love with gentleness and forgiveness towards others. May Your love transform our lives and relationships, bringing peace and joy.

In Jesus's name, we pray, Amen.

Please take a moment to consider what God is speaking to you through the scripture passage and the devotional reflection.

Then, take some time for prayer—pray for your own soul, and lift up

our children and Next Generation ministry. May God bless their hearts!
