Day 24

Cross Keys United Methodist Church

www.crosskeyschurch.org

Scripture:

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Come to Me

Rest is something we all require. From taking a mandatory nap as a child to requiring one as we mature, one thing is certain: Rest is vital. Even God Himself rested, when he had completed the creation of the heavens and the earth (Genesis 2:1-3). But there is another type of rest that God knew we would need: rest for a weary soul.

Rest so deep and profound, it could not be achieved through our own means. Relief and renewal so individualized and complete, it could only be satisfied and delivered by a loving savior who knew precisely where, when and how we would need help carrying a heavy load.

I first discovered this verse over thirty years ago, while I was experiencing a time when I deeply needed rest.

I had not yet come to know Christ, so trusting God to trade my burden for His peace was not something that came easy to me. Ultimately, I decided to trust God, and take Him at His word. What followed would be decades of God fulfilling His promise to me time and time again; trading my burdens for His peace and rest.

Reflection Written by Louise Dillon

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your precious son Jesus, who willingly shed His blood to offer salvation and peace. I pray that all who seek you will find you, and that you would give them peace and rest.

In Jesus's name, we pray, Amen.

Please take a moment to consider what God is speaking to you through the scripture passage and the devotional reflection.

Then, take some time for prayer—pray for your own soul, and lift up

senior students and teachers who are traveling this week for senior trip, asking for their safety.

You can also listen to the music provided below as a backdrop

for your time of prayer.
